Throws Support to Matt Jones
Senate President Endorses Experience
This week, State Senate President Brandon Shaffer announced he is endorsing Matt Jones for State Senate in District 17. Shaffer currently holds this seat, but is unable to run due to term-limits. Jones announced his bid for State Senate in August, and already represents half of this senate district, since he currently serves as State Representative for House District 12.
"Matt Jones' life and legislative experience and ability to bring people together to solve problems makes him exceptionally qualified for the job," said Shaffer. "His focus on clean energy and small business jobs and education is critical to getting Eastern Boulder County back to work."
Shaffer's endorsement expands the growing list of supporters. Jones' co-chairs include former State Representative Paul Weissmann, County Commissioners Cindy Domenico and Will Toor, former County Commissioner Jana Mendez, District Attorney Stan Garnett, Sheriff Joe Pelle, and former Longmont City Council member Tom McCoy. State Senate District 17 includes Longmont, Lafayette, Louisville, and the Boulder County portion of Erie.

AT THE STATEHOUSE
The 2012 legislative session has begun and I’m working hard to stay in touch, get people back to work, and find constructive solutions for Colorado.
Like last year, my priorities will be jobs. We have got to work together to find real solutions for the people that have been out of work for far too long and for the people that are anxious about their current job security. I will be working with my colleagues on a number of bills to encourage small business growth and job creation. And after several years of difficult cuts, I will be working to make sure we’re providing the much needed funding for our public schools so that are kids will be prepared to compete for the jobs of tomorrow.
This year, I am sponsoring a bill to make sure that state-funded buildings make the most of their energy-saving improvements, which support jobs, save money, and keep our air clean. I will also be working on a bill to make sure cities and counties have a voice in decisions about fracking regulation. While it’s good that we’re creating jobs through domestic energy production, we must do it responsibly. Local governments know best the needs of their own communities, and I am committed to making sure we’re protecting our kids and neighborhoods.
